2 DAYS RIVER KWAI – ELEPHANTS & TIGERS (BKKRVT / BKKRT2)
Daily departure from Bangkok with English, German or French speaking guide (other languages on request and at surcharge)
ITINERARY:
BANGKOK – KANCHANABURI (-/L/D)
DAY 1 Early morning pick up at your hotel in Bangkok and departure to Kanchanaburi. Today’s visits will be dedicated to the history of the “Death Railway”, built by prisoners of war during World War II. We visit the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre, an interactive museum, information and research facility dedicated to presenting the history of the Thailand-Burma Railway. The fully air-conditioned center offers an educational and moving experience. Then board the local train for an exciting ride on the “Death Railway”. After lunch at a local restaurant, we continue to the Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum, which is co-sponsored by the Australian and Thai governments. Superb interactive displays tell the story of the construction of the railway cutting through the pass. Visitors can walk down the valley and see the actual cutting of Hellfire Pass. Although the tracks have long since disappeared, the route of the cutting can be clearly seen. We then drive to the Resotel pier and take a long-tail boat to your resort, located on the Kwai River. Dinner and overnight at the RIVER KWAI RESOTEL (BKKRVT) or at JUNGLE RAFTS (BKKRT2).
KANCHANABURI - BANGKOK (B/L/-)
DAY 2 Breakfast at the resort. Boat transfer to Resotel pier, and then continue by van to Sai Yok Elephant Camp. Enjoy a one-hour trek on the back of an elephant and then embark on bamboo rafts floating down the river (chances are, that you will get wet – please bring along a change of clothes!). Lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the Kwai River. Then we drive to Wat Pa Luangta Bua Yannasampanno Forest Monastery, better known as the Tiger Temple. Since its opening in 1994, the monastery gained a reputation as a wildlife sanctuary and by now a countless number of boar, deer, buffaloes, cows, horses, wild goat and gibbons roam around freely. The first tiger cub arrived to the monastery in February 1999 and more followed soon after. One zone of the existing valley is used as a place where tigers are being led for exercise in the afternoon. Visitors are allowed to walk down this valley and observe the tigers roaming freely and closely and can take photographs of them. On our return journey to Bangkok, we will stop at the War Cemetery, final resting place for over 6,000 allied prisoners of war. Then continue by air-conditioned van / coach back to Bangkok and transfer to your hotel.
Our package tour prices are inclusive of transfers and tours by air conditioned car / van/ coach with English, German or French speaking guide (other languages are available on request at surcharge), entrance fees, meals as specified in the program (full board), train ticket, elephant ride & bamboo rafting, accommodation at River Kwai Jungle Rafts (cold water shower, no electricity) or at Resotel (room with air-condition and hot water shower), service charges and VAT.
